We’ve officially been in our house for six months now, and while it’s definitely not totally done, it’s certainly come a long way! I thought I would show most of the rooms as they stand today and give a little recap of the projects we did. Plus everyone loves a good before and after, right? So here we go…
We painted our living/dining room in Silver Fox by Benjamin Moore and replaced the light fixture with a French-inspired chandelier (no longer available from World Market, similar here) This is also where we spent most of our furnishings budget, purchasing quite a few pieces. You can get a source list and read about the original makeover here.
The built-ins were blue, but I gave them a fresh coat of Simply White to freshen them up. I would still like to remove the gingerbread trim, but it blends much better now that everything’s white.
In this photo you can see the flow of the rooms really well. It’s hard
to take this shot now because of the furniture placement and because I
try not to get the entertainment room (Matt’s room) in the shots. It’s
his space and, while perfectly fine, is not exactly “blog worthy” so I
have to get creative with my camera angles. But here how you can see how
all the rooms are connected. The layout is amazing!
DINING ROOM
I painted the table with help from a friend, then filled the wall space with new and vintage finds. The end chairs are from here. You can read about the makeover here and the wall makeover here.
DINING NOOK
The space off of our dining room that leads to the kitchen is actually quite large. My mom wanted me to put our dining table here actually, and I might try that someday. For now it houses a buffet and church pew. It’s the perfect serving area.
The buffet has already changed since I took these pictures, as I’ve change out the window above it. The lanterns really live in another room as I’m still searching for the perfect accessories for the top, but this grouping definitely makes a pretty picture!
This corner was the first completed area in our house and I haven’t touched it since. It’s still one of my favorites!
Paint made a world of difference in lightening up the kitchen! Someday I would love to replace the counters and backsplash, but they are perfectly fine for now. You can read about the makeover here.
This is a photo from the fall, but our kitchen looks just the same except the space beyond the fridge.
Here is the area on the other side of the fridge. This also gives a better feel for how large a space it is. Someday I would love to make these windows into French doors as it would open right onto the patio. Wouldn’t that be beautiful?
Actually I’ve painted this table and removed the leaves, but I didn’t take fresh photos of it (woops) so this is all I have for now!
POWDER ROOM
The powder room off the kitchen was a dark moss green and very basic when we moved in. We just gave it a little lip stick with paint and accessories to brighten things up.
The hearth room was a chocolate brown originally, so we painted it Coventry Gray by Benjamin Moore. I also painted the bar trim and stools, plus added architectural salvage to the mantel for interest. It’s still a work in progress but I’m liking how it’s turning out more and more. (Pssst…I’m working on a secret blog project for this room! Did someone say new rug? Stay tuned!)
The long mantel gives me fits, but it’s getting there. Definitely not an easy space to decorate : ) I’ve learned height and layering is key!
Here is the other side of the room, and you can see where the entry/front door is.
I can’t believe how much we’ve accomplished in just six months! Granted these are simply cosmetic changes (we aren’t handy so the “bones” of our house had to be move in ready!) but the difference is still amazing! If you’ve read my blog much, you’ve seen these rooms before. But don’t worry, I have so much planned for the next six months in our house! We just finished painting our guest bedroom, and we are tackling the garage this weekend. Still to come in the complete makeover department: master bedroom, master bath, guest room, guest bath, office, hallway, entryway, garage, laundry room and patio. Lots more on the way! : )
What I love about our house is that it’s a completely blank slate. It has great molding, nice flooring and a pretty neutral color on all the walls. But some spaces can look a little blah. From the moment we moved in I knew I wanted to give our main floor powder room a little…
It’s no secret Instagram is my favorite form of social media…there is just so much inspiration to be had, and I love connecting with others on IG (find me @courtneymbrowning if you’d like to connect!). So cozy! Where are your sofas from?
Hi Courtney! Our living room sofa is the IKEA Ektorp, and the hearth room sofa is a hand-me-down originally from a thrift store. It is slip covered in a slip from Target. Thanks!
Love the coffee table! Where's it from?

Love you area rugs – Sisal?
Wow! This is just gorgeous. You're doing a lovely job! The mirror and curtained sink in your powder room are just SO sweet. Totally my style, I love vintage touches like that.
We're 3 months in at our first house and still have much to do. I've started a blog all about it, seems like we're on similar paths! I'd love for you to check it out 🙂 http://www.indigoandhoney.com

Loving your living room. I think I read that you got your rug from overstock.com? I was reading reviews and wondering how it's holding up? Thanks!
It's called flow..you put yourself out there..let's see your house

Repainting the walls and going with a white and gray colour scheme was a good choice. Your rooms look much larger and more inviting now, mainly due to the increased light exposure. The decorations and posters on the wall are a nice touch as well – makes the house look like a home!

Funny, that's what I thought, too. The decor is so beautiful, but all the gray looks cold to me. I prefer some warmth in wall colors.
